AT WORK AT PLAY

Background

Hazel Cobb joined DCI with a background in diversity communications. She has worked in all aspects of publicity media relations, from concept to implementation, for corporate, consumer and non-profit clients and has experience working with both mainstream and multicultural media.

Prior to joining DCI, Hazel served as the primary diversity media contact for ten of Las Vegas' prime hotel and resorts owned by MGM MIRAGE, including: Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, The Mirage, New York-New York, Excalibur, Treasure Island, Monte Carlo and Circus Circus. She coordinated with media on travel and tourism features, familiarization trips, photo shoots and radio/promotional events for hotel venues such as spas, restaurants, nightlife and shows like Cirque du Soleil.

Additional experience includes opening Southwest Airlines’ service to Southwest Florida International Airport, introducing the brand Starbucks into culturally diverse markets and re-launching a local retail shop into a Dallas area neighborhood benefiting the store's non-profit cause.

Hazel's Passion for Places

Born in Manila, Philippines, Hazel and her family moved to the United States in 1983. In college she studied communications, with a focus on journalism and public relations, and a minor in Spanish. Hazel graduated summa cum laude and the only person in her graduating degree with that honor. It was through her work with a diversity firm that Hazel began exploring the opportunity of travel PR. A trip abroad changed her perspective of what she felt people needed to see, experience and understand about the world.

Notable Results

• In 2005, Hazel’s team received the Gold Award for “Best Press/Media Kit” from the International Festivals and Events Association for work done at the annual Main Street Arts Festival in Fort Worth, Texas. The annual event attracts hundreds of thousands of local, national and international visitors to the city.

  • Hazel secured top tier print coverage for five MGM MIRAGE venues. Black Enterprise “Best of Everything” issue recognized BATHHOUSE as the “Best Hotel Spa” and SKYLOFTS as the “Best Domestic Luxury Hotel.” Passport “World’s Best Spa” issue recognized the MGM Grand Spa, Spa & Salon Bellagio and Wet The Spa at Treasure Island.
  • • Hazel developed the very first social networking campaign for MGM MIRAGE with GLEE.com, an online networking site similar to MySpace.com for the gay and lesbian community. The opportunity positioned MGM as the destination of choice for gays and lesbians and offered new site members a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas on behalf of MGM MIRAGE and GLEE.com.
